PREMIERE: 'Coalby' wants your mind for a while, let him have it.
Side Stare Music is proud to have the honour of premiering singer-songwriter 'Coalbys' first EP; Lend Me Your Mind. Hailing from the Clarence Valley floodplains of Northern New South Wales, Coalby has been on the music scene, in some form or another, for quite some time. However this is the first time the young man has pressed the big red record button on any of his work, and its lucky for us he did.
Lend Me Your Mind was written between 2015 and 2016, and recorded in late 2017 at Mud Hut Sounds in Pillar Valley. Lend Me Your Mind is an emotive and memorable EP that is equal parts depth and quality and dabbles in a range of genres including folk, soul and blues. Coalby’s intricate musicianship and talent is displayed throughout the six tracks on the EP with the Ebor Outlaw demonstrating his prowess on a number of different instruments including piano and guitar.
“Lend Me Your Mind is mainly about the vacant ache that is faced when people suddenly fade from view, and the changes that inevitably follow,” said Coalby when asked about the EP.
With a performance that delivers raw honesty, simplicity, diversity and power, Coalby has been earmarked by many as one to watch in 2019. Keep your ears to the ground, your eyes peeled and catch all the necessary music and social silliness below.
